VISA UPDATED POLICY FOR FREE TRIALS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

Visa has enhanced policies for sellers who offer free trials or other introductory promotions as part of their subscription service for physical or digital goods, in which pricing changes from the initial trial period to the first bill may occur.

Visa’s changes are designed to enhance the customer experience by providing transparent agreement information. Given the increase in online and subscription payments with customers largely conducting purchases at home – there is a greater need for increased transparency for subscription transactions with a free trial offer.

Subscription sellers that utilize free trial promotional offers must document and provide their customer information on the initial engagement of service, as well as all subsequent transactions in a detailed transaction receipt.

PSD2 RULING NOW REPORTED

The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has confirmed an 18-month delay to the introduction of Secure Customer Authentication (SCA) rules – one of the most important legislations affecting the financial and retail sectors – in a bid to give firms more time to prepare.
As part of the Second European Payment Services Directive (PSD2), the SCA requirement stipulates stronger payment security standards for higher value transactions based on multi factor authentication, increasing the security of electronic payments.

HYATT HOTELS SUFFERS 2ND CARD BREACH IN 2 YEARS

Hyatt Corp. is alerting customers about another credit card breach at some hotels, the second major incident with the hospitality chain in as many years.
Hyatt said its cyber security team discovered signs of unauthorized access to payment card information from cards manually entered or swiped at the front desk of certain Hyatt-managed locations between March 18, 2017 and July 2, 2017

EQUIFAX HACKERS STOLE 200K CREDIT CARD ACCOUNTS IN ONE FELL SWOOP

Visa and MasterCard are sending confidential alerts to financial institutions across the United States this week, warning them about more than 200,000 credit cards that were stolen in the epic data breach announced last week at big-three credit bureau Equifax. At first glance, the private notices obtained by KrebsOnSecurity appear to suggest that hackers initially breached Equifax starting in November 2016. But Equifax says the accounts were all stolen at the same time — when hackers accessed the company’s systems in mid-May 2017.
